Mindful Living Health Expo 01.31.15
On January 31, 2015, Keith Mitchell, Light It Up Foundation, and AltaMed teamed up to create a day of family-friendly activities to promote health and wellness for the local Los Angeles community. Located at the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the event kicked off with a 5K Run/Walk and continued into an Expo with free health screenings, yoga sessions, and performances.
Guest speaker, friend, and guerilla gardener, Ron Finley, invited me to participate in his garden installation, where I designed a "greenhouse" weaving loom from PVC piping and connectors. Using hand-dyed recycled fiber yarns and ribbons, participants had an opportunity to engage with art as a meditative practice and mental exercise. In an effort to encourage innovation and play, the only rule was "no rules" - the only instruction was to do what felt natural...
Special thank you to fashion designers Jennifer and Makysha for your continued support and assistance in guiding this session. The diversity of resulting styles was astounding, and we left the park inspired and enlightened.
